'It
is time I make my mark in Africa', said Jeff Jones, who has spent the most part of his musical career in
the United Kingdom. 'I was signed to an
independent label in England for a couple of years while studying at the
University of Leicester, but I felt stuck to Western tracks that did not
represent my true ideals and identity; I therefore waited for my contract to
run out and moved on with my style of Afro-rap, highly influenced by the likes
of Ice Prince and Sakordie.’
'While
I cannot deny that my career has been shaped by Western music, I have no doubt
that all music comes from the African soul; I feel the need to represent my
people and make music that 'we' can identify with'. 'Africa is home'.
Jeff
Jones, began his musical career performing in Church as a gospel singer,
until he found poetry and rhymes came easily. 'I would open my mouth and drop
rhymes on the spot'. 'I knew then that it was the way forward'. Jeff debuted as
a professional artiste in 2011 under his label 'Waacckkkaaa' with a song entitled ‘Kilode' which was a remake of P
Square's smash hit 'Chop My Money'.
His huge
European fan base are not the only ones noticing him. He recently opened for
acclaimed artistes Ice Prince and Fuse ODG; the list goes on.
This current
single: Oti Tohas already hit the
airwaves and clubs in the UK, Ireland, Sweden and neighboring countries. Jeff Jones is set to release a
captivating video that is sure to grant him the respect he deserves as one of
the most lyrically talented rappers emerging from Africa.
